Organizational Overview:

Founded in 1982, We Can Ride, Inc. (WCR) is a non-profit, 501 (C)(3), volunteer-based organization whose mission is to challenge those living with physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioral disabilities by enhancing their skills and well being through programs of therapeutic horseback riding, hippotherapy and carriage driving. As a Premier Accredited Center with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH, Intl.), WCR operates under the guidance of credentialed physical and occupational therapists and PATH certified therapeutic riding instructors who are assisted by trained and dedicated volunteers. Primary Objectives:

The Executive Director provides overall leadership, planning, and management for We Can Ride. Key focus areas include fundraising, budget management, relationship management and human resources. He/she works with the Board of Directors and Committees to establish policies and programs and oversees all programs, staff and financials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mission-focused and outcomes-orientated leader – Implement long-term vision, strategic goals and annual objectives
  • Financial Management – prepare and manage a $550k annual budget and plan for future capital needs
  • Fundraising – Work closely with development staff and committees to sustain and grow donor funding streams including individual gifts, major donors, foundation and corporate grants, and special events
  • Board Liaison and Development – Advance organizational governance by reporting to the board on WCR operations and develop the board through recruitment and training
  • Program Design & Management – Work with program staff to maintain high quality programs and services while enhancing programs to better serve our riders
  • Administration – Oversee the upkeep and operations of facilities, as well as supervise, hire, review and discipline staff
  • Promotion – Be the face of WCR in our community and among core constituencies

Qualifications:

  • 5 years executive management experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector
  • Proven financial, fundraising and marketing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • BA or BS strongly preferred, advanced degree a plus
  • Previous PATH or other therapeutic riding experience preferred
  • A strong background in understanding disabilities or a horse professional required; both preferred
  • Fundraising experience highly preferred
